The Brief
Founded in 2023, Mighty Kids experienced rapid adoption as one of the first UK companies producing liposomal supplements designed specifically for children. With thousands of active subscriptions and increasing order volume, the existing WooCommerce infrastructure began to struggle. The site was crashing nearly every day during peak traffic periods, with uptime struggling to keep pace.

Legacy order storage created severe performance bottlenecks, leading to slow average page loads and checkout completion times that could stretch past two minutes. Operational processes also required improvement. Refund and cancellation handling relied heavily on manual intervention, with each refund taking a significant amount of time to process, while promotional campaigns demanded more flexible pricing logic and bundling capabilities. The support team also lacked a clear system for tracking refunds, requests, and operational events.
Mighty Kids needed a faster, more reliable storefront that could support continued growth while maintaining a clear and trustworthy customer experience.

The Approach
Progressus.io engaged in along-term collaboration, focused on targeted feature development and performance stabilization. Rather than broad redesign, the objective was surgical improvement, optimizing specific operational layers while preserving the brand’s existing identity and structure.
1. Performance and Data Infrastructure
WooCommerce High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS) replaced legacy order tables. This migration removed major database bottlenecks and accelerated order processing speed by 3x, from 6 seconds per order down to 2.1 seconds. The transition was completed without downtime, and database query speeds for order operations improved by 4.5x, dropping from 1.8 seconds to 400 milliseconds.
2. Checkout and Customer Experience
Checkout fields were reorganized for clarity and improved usability. Product variations were redesigned with one-click selection options, making product configuration faster and more intuitive. Average page load time was significantly improved.
An address confirmation system was also introduced, allowing customers to verify shipping information before fulfillment and drastically reducing delivery errors.
3. Refunds and Cancellations
A custom refund and cancellation system automated previously manual workflows. The system evaluates order status and fulfillment data before processing refunds and records each action for internal tracking. Refund processing is now 4x faster, dropping from 25 minutes to 6 minutes per transaction, reducing support workload while improving transparency for both staff and customers.
4. Promotions and Bundling
Flexible promotional tools were developed to support bundles, upsells, and tiered discount campaigns. These systems ensured consistent pricing behavior across product pages, carts, and checkout while reducing campaign setup time from hours to minutes, allowing the marketing team to run complex campaigns without technical intervention.
5. Tagging and Reporting Platform
Two extensible tagging systems were developed: Order Tags and Customer Tags, providing a structured way to classify and track operational data. REST APIs exposed tag information for use by external systems, including integration with Zendesk through custom-built endpoints. This supported the client’s customer service automation and improved refund tracking.
6. Infrastructure and Scaling
The site transitioned from SiteGround hosting to BigScoots, enhancing server performance and reliability. All new plugins and modules were verified for HPOS and Subscriptions compatibility, ensuring future-proof operation.
Throughout the engagement, Progressus maintained alignment with Mighty Kids internal workflows, delivering iterative updates, bug fixes, and production-grade customizations without disruption.
